The wines
Taste them in the winery, try them and take home one of our bottles. Alternatively, buy wines from our winery in Ischia directly from our website.
The wine production of Azienda Agricola Ruffano is simple and authentic: a white, a red and a straw wine, the latter a real gem of our winery, with moscato and malvasia dried naturally thanks to the warm climate of the place. The straw wine has an amber color and notes of honey, almonds, candied citrus and hazelnuts.
It is perfect with aged cheeses and traditional almond desserts.
The PGI Ruffano Bianco and Rosso wines are produced following traditional and organic methods, with obsessive attention to cleanliness in the winery.

The wine cellars are located underground, in natural caves that always maintain the perfect temperature for the cellaring of wines.
These caves were dug by hand. Today, they are yet another reminder of the passion of the Ischitan people who came before us.
About 12,000 bottles of wine are produced every year.
The wine is produced with the expert advice of winemaker and Friend Sergio Romano.

A fresh, new wine that is loved by young people and those who want to enjoy the Dolce Vita on Ischia.
It is also a wine that tastes of apricots, of spring flowers, of lightness.
Perfect for those who like to enjoy the pleasure of good food, of a traditional dish of Ischia, such as the famous Ischitan rabbit, together with a white wine that celebrates the local area.
A wine that is a tribute to convivial moments at the table, to feeling good, to eating together.
And it is reminiscent of the red, mouthwatering fruits of summer, blackberries, cherries.
The local area
In the eight hectares of land on the slopes of Mount Epomeo passion, enthusiasm and vitality come together to create something extraordinary.
It is on the hill of Ruffano, from which the Ruffano Commerical Farm takes its name, that we produce wine and more. The vines grow on volcanic terraces overlooking the sea, which then go up toward the summit of Mount Epomeo, the highest on Ischia.
The exposure and positioning of the terrain is to the south, in a warm and ventilated area where the sun caresses the rows of grapevines for most of the day, and where the soils are rich in minerals. All of this imparts a unique flavor to the wine. All this gives a unique flavor to the wine. The sea breeze here soothes and caresses the bunches of grapes, and the sea winds favor ripening while protecting the vines from disease.

The wines are produced using local grape varieties, Biancolella, Piedirosso, and Forastera, and they become the symbols of the Azienda Agricola Ruffano.
We love our territory and wish to preserve it: environmental sustainability is a value for us, which we pursue by using machinery as little as possible and abolishing chemical pesticides when producing wine.
All this is also to protect our bees, which produce delicious honey, and the local tree crops, such as orange, tangerine, and apricot, from which we make delicious jams. In addition, photovoltaic systems help us to be energy self-sufficient, and the volcanic soil that releases heat from the fumaroles warms the water naturally, without using any electric or motorized devices.

The Tenuta
There really is a happy, beautiful place in harmony with the surrounding nature!
Welcome to Tenuta Ruffano!
Welcome to Tenuta Ruffano!
The Tenuta Ruffano in Ischia is a haven of quiet in the island, with views overlooking the Ancient Village of Sant'Angelo, the blue sea, the green Mediterranean scrub and, on the horizon, the promontory of Punta Chiarito.
Here, the beauty celebrated by the ancient Greeks through viticulture finds its home, as three extraordinary wines are produced from local, indigenous grape varieties.
Everything is created using natural methods and following the rhythm of the seasons that follow one another on the island.

Attention to detail is important to us, which is why each vineyard is vinified separately to preserve its unique features.
The winemaking process is as it was in past centuries, with men and women full of passion for wine and for our island hard at work. The harvest takes place in September, in a joyful, convivial atmosphere. Guests at Punta Chiarito Resort often join us in this ritual that is repeated every year.

About us
Our family has put their heart, soul and dedication into this land. But above all, dreams, the soul of our products.
Making wine was a dream, an ancient dream that has always run through our family's veins. The desire to pass on a good, authentic, unique product, the value of family sharing: this drove us to stick together and create something special.
Since way back in 1902, when the forefather of the Impagliazzo family, Salvatore Impagliazzo, was born.
Since way back in 1902, when the forefather of the Impagliazzo family, Salvatore Impagliazzo, was born.

From a young age, around 1920, great-grandfather Salvatore began making wine.
It was during this period that, together with the other ancestors of the family, he began the hard work of farming and winemaking, in a difficult, impervious, but always beautiful and fertile land.
The soils on the slopes of Mount Epomeo, volcanic and rich in minerals, were in fact perfect to plant the first vines.

After WWII, in the 1950s and 1960s, great-grandfather Salvatore began exporting wines to the mainland via boats.
He would depart from his winery, loading wine barrels on donkeys and mules to boats that crossed the Gulf of Naples, thus reaching the main coastal cities and opening new markets for our Ischian wines.

In 1943, Nicola Impagliazzo, Salvatore's son and the real owner of the Ruffano winery today, was born.
Nicola likes to tell the story of our commercial farm, of when he was a child and used to harvest Biancolella grapes in baskets, which were then loaded onto donkeys and taken to the only grape collection center on the island. With his positive energy, he manages to pass on his passion and love for viticulture also to the new generations.

In 2006, Azienda Agricola Ruffano was born, with the help of the entire Impagliazzo family.
Many improvements were made that year: the old cellars were renovated and new temperature-controlled fermentation systems improved the wine production.
New steel vats and wooden barrels are also added.

The Azienda Agricola Ruffano has been run by the Impagliazzo family for three generations: there is the founder Nicola with Caterina, their children and grandchildren. The youngest members of the family are the ones who bring innovation and a breath of fresh air to wine production. This is not just a family business, but a real home!
